Sure he is the same Salary as Robbie, but he couldn't net the same amount of prospects as trading Robbie did...so if you sign Boone, suddenly the Robbie trade is a major win.

Oh yeah, we are poor...never mind.

Hmm...well personally I think that boone is a one year wonder...I mean he had more holes in his swing then swiss cheese against all our pitchers, and he was not even close to any of the pitches. I just think he was the beneficiary of having people throw fastballs so they could keep Ichiro from stealing and not have to face Edgar.
And i don't think he is really that great defensively. I would rather sign Vina...he would be perfect in the number 2 hole.
Anyone think about putting Fryman in the number 3 hole? That is definitely the single slot in the batting order that the most fast balls are thrown because hopefully your 1-2 guys are on base. And we know that Fryman is a pure fastball hitter, and mashes mistake fastballs. What do you think?
We sign Vina...then the lineup is...
    Anderson
    Vina
    Fryman
    Thome
    Burks
    Lawton
    Bradley
    Diaz
    Vizquel

I personally think that is the best lineup available. employs everyone's strengths...Bradley, if he gets on, has the speed to score on Diaz' doubles, so does Lawton. Vizquel is a great bunter so he can move over Diaz after his doubles...remember...we are going with the small ball. smile
I think we are in good shape...really i do...
with...let's see...Rincon, Rigger or damn..forgot his name..., (Rocker) unfortunately he is still with us..., Westbrook, Riske, Shuey, Wickman in the bullpen, and the really young staff of, Colon, CC, Finley, Drese, Drew. I think Drew is a good number 5 starter. Hell, he is a LOT cheaper the NYY's number five...geezus...paying 6 million a year for a number five starter?! even a number 4 starter, that is way too much...that is why i HATE the yankees. If anyone tells me that they built it thru the farm system, that is BS because their entire rotation, except for petite is bought at way over market value, and the bullpen is the same except for rivera. The position players? quite a bit, but that is only counting that you count traded for players as part of the system.

Interesting strategy, actually counting on your number 8 hitter (Diaz) to double in fast guys such as Bradley and Lawton.

I just wonder about Anderson and Vina, will they get on enough....although ironically, our top two have been mediocre in the past...but then again, our #3,4,5 hitters last year were the most prolific of any team in baseball.

We are really going to need Ellis and Travis to come through big time this year.

I think Lawton is a leadoff kind of guy, perhaps switch him and Anderson in the line-up.

    Red face

Possibly...although I am counting on Anderson picking up those walks. He is a better OBP guy then Lawton, pure BBs anyway.
Vina is still a 300 hitter.
Fryman has to come back strong, but Burks was fine last year, at least until he got hurt.
Diaz is a doubles monster...seriosuly...he lead all catchers, including Posada in doubles and I think he lead the team last year.

If Brett Boone gets 8 million a year, can Gutierrez really be "worth" almost 4 million a year...

I think it's crazy to consider him anything more than a utility man who can fill in at 3rd, short or second.

And for that, he shouldn't get more than 2 to 2.5 million a year.
